New York / New Jersey: start with the right local authority
Use New York City services as a starting point while keeping New Jersey and suburban jurisdictions separate.
NYC.gov brings together New York City services such as 311, sanitation, housing, jobs, records and payments. If your address is inside New York City, use the city service directory or 311 to identify the responsible agency and confirm current instructions before submitting a request.
The wider New York / New Jersey metro crosses many city, county and state boundaries. A New York City service page does not govern New Jersey or every suburb. Check your actual municipality and state before acting, especially for property, schools, licences or benefits.
